1. You press the shutter button to take a photo.
2. A 'pre-flash' fires.
3. The first curtain opens.
4. The flash fires.
5. The second curtain closes.
At night, this resulted in a display of lights and patterns. After taking the opportunity to test this out myself, it result in the selected shots below...
